Wu, Xiaoyu
For Wu Xiaoyu, choosing the Master’s program in Finance at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was not unexpected.
Starting from her sophomore year, Xiaoyu made a determination to move to a southern city to escape the bone-chilling winters of the north. Additionally, compared to traditionally inclined cities like Beijing and Shanghai, Shenzhen - a young, dynamic, and free-spirited city - offers young people a broader stage and more equal employment opportunities.
After several selections, Xiaoyu, with outstanding performance and excellent grades, successfully earned the opportunity to participate in the summer camp of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and officially enrolled in the program this year.
“Only through experience do we gain the right to speak.”
When speaking of her impression of the summer camp, she repeatedly emphasized the term “humanistic care.” For example, upon arrival at the academy for check-in, the teachers warmly greeted everyone, helped with luggage, and ensured a smooth check-in process.
“I truly felt a strong sense of humanistic care here; the teachers always put the students’ needs first.”
During the subsequent group activities, it was originally planned for all camp members to participate in a cycling activity at Shenzhen Bay Park. Unexpectedly, our fellow student Xiaoyu did not know how to ride a bicycle! However, instead of ignoring this small embarrassment, the project team chose to show meticulous care by promptly finding a tandem bicycle for her to use.
At the farewell party, she expressed her gratitude to the project teachers for their hard work through a stunning performance on the guzheng. (For your information, Xiaoyu also holds a Grade Ten Certificate in guzheng.)
As mentioned at the beginning, we all know that Xiaoyu received a full scholarship for the Master’s program in Finance. As an outstanding student, she naturally became the representative of the program and participated in the 2019 Northeast Enrollment and Summer Camp Promotion Conference, sharing experiences of the Master’s program with students from Jilin University and Harbin Institute of Technology.
For Xiaoyu, who graduated from Jilin University, she understands the needs of northern students. She vividly described the advantages and characteristics of the program, starting from daily necessities to the advantages the program offers.
In the Master’s program in Finance, which boasts superior job resources, Xiaoyu, like other students, has already started internships early in her career.
“In my opinion, the size and reputation of the company for an internship are not the most important. What matters most is to learn practical knowledge and workplace skills during each internship, rather than just becoming a CPO.” (*Editor’s note: CPO refers to Chief Print Officer.)
Internships, as the name suggests, aim to combine practical experience with theoretical knowledge, allowing one to learn real skills during internships. It’s about continuous observation, understanding, and forming one’s own methodology. For Xiaoyu, the ability to gather information is crucial. Being able to obtain more information than others means seizing more opportunities.
“I do not compromise; that’s how I evaluate myself.”
Currently sharpening her skills as a participant in the “Double Hundred Plan” at Tencent, Xiaoyu has never considered giving up despite significant work pressure. “I won’t take a detour because the road ahead is difficult. My approach is to delay satisfaction because the most anticipated view is after overcoming hardships.”
